Beethoven loved Mozart! In fact, other than his five cello sonatas, Beethoven wrote two sets of variations on duets from Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). This second set is based on Papageno's (cello) love duet with Pamima (piano) from Act I. "They praise of the power of love between husband and wife, and the universal joy of love, 'Love today and love tomorrow keep nature's circle turning true'" (ref.).
