Erich and Elma Doflein's repertoire series, Music for Violin and Piano, is made up of four volumes of pieces arranged in progressive order. Book 4, subtitled From Vivaldi to Viotti, draws its repertoire from the 18th and 19th centuries, but unlike Book 3, this volume focuses on pieces for violin and piano, rather than those with figured bass accompaniment. The violin parts make use of techniques reinforced in the three previous books, requiring comfortable shifting and various bowing styles. These pieces make ideal supplements to other violin methods.
