Carter Pann's Third String Quartet, Los Tangos Azules, (2019) is an 18-minute suit of four atmospheric tangos, which the composer suggests may be accompanied on stage by authentic tango dancers. The darkness and mysterious teasing of tango style blend with Pann's contemporary voice in varying ways throughout the four contrasting movements. Enticing colors and gestures span the spectrum from light to dark, while the aromas tend towards sinister. 

From the composer, "Los Tangos Azules was commissioned for the Ajax Quartet by a single gentleman whose musical vision and tastes dance from the comedic to the moribund, including everything in between.
