I began composing them to help my students navigate the chromatic episodes that many of the etudes contain, and to help their intonation by providing an uncomplicated second voice to guide and clarify the tonality. I was inspired by the second parts created for their own etudes and caprices by Duport, Servais, Franchomme, and even Popper himself for his etudes of Opus 76...." - Carter Enyeart (from the prelude)
