Yasuda, Martha - Christmas Melodies For Viola: Duets Cubed (Advanced) - Digital Download
Christmas Melodies, Duets^3...3 Verses of FUN!, is a unique book of Christmas duos which challenges all levels of players, from the novice to the most advanced.
There are three levels of difficulty within the three verses of the harmony part: easy [quarter notes], medium [eighth notes], and hard [sixteenth notes]. The melody goes up an octave on many of the third verses. Playing the three verses straight through produces a marvelous crescendo effect of exhilaration for the listener, which is ideal for holiday parties, church services and studio/retirement home programs.
This is the Melody-Harmony Advanced Tradeoff version of this book, now transcribed for viola, which trades off the melody and harmony parts. Both players need to be strong readers with advanced shifting and string crossing skills in order to make smooth transitions between the melody and harmony. The tradeoff spots don't happen that often within a verse in order to maintain a natural musical flow.
